Bye Bye Ri-Ri

Well we have to take Riley back to the Shelter today. Last night she attacked our other dog over some food. It was horrible. They fought from the kitchen all the way to Mom's room. Riley would NOT let go of Sadie. Sadie is the most alpha dog i have ever seen and she kept submitting and trying to keep the fight away from us, but Riley kept going back and would not let go of her head, ears, face, and feet. Finally we separated them and Riley has been outside ever since. They are both pretty cut up and Riley was bleeding everywhere. Both of them got some pain pills and they look fine. Riley will be going back. I am so dissapointed in her. Now she will have to die in that shelter. No one is going to adopt an 11 year old pitt mix with scars on her. Poor thing.

Aww, that is too bad. We have a dominant female German Shepherd (ellie) that is the greatest dog but she has gotten into some pretty serious dog fights (but not with our own dogs luckily). Last night we were at a friends house and she got roughed up by his Irish Wolfhound over a leg of lamb that fell on the floor. Luckily she didn't get roughed up too much but we thought it served her right to finally be on the receiving end. I am totally one for trying to save a dog's life but if Ellie seriously attacked our dogs when she arrived, we would have taken her straight back to the shelter. Luckily, the few fights she had with our Great Dane were over as soon as I screamed at the top of my lungs and scared the crap out of them.

Is this really the only option? Could you not try and find her a home, yorselves? I had to place an aggressive border collie after his owner moved out of country and left the task to me. He'd bitten 3x before, so we knew if he went to the pound, it would be byebye doggy. It took 3 tries, but we finally found him an amzing home and not one incident of aggression since!

Oh, that stinks. I'm sorry for you guys and for Sadie and for Riley. You don't know that someone won't adopt her....you did!! Try to think of it that way.
I know that when we got Big Gus, we would have been in the same situation had he been aggressive to our older dogs.....
